Commissioned Paintings and Ideas
Much of my work as an artist has been in the form of
commissioned art . Some artists are hesitant to take other's
ideas to work from , but I happen to enjoy it. Most commission
projects are pleasing from the mere fact that someone's special
idea has become a work of art, something they will find very
special for years to come . And ideas are as unique as the
people who have them .
I have painted Honeymoon Cottages, fishing
cabins,yachts,academic achievements ,dormitories and even
family reunions, complete with potato salad . I have
included landscaping that has been changed , or has yet to
be planted. I have painted memories for people to enjoy ,
and that brings me great satisfaction . There have been
tears shed ,as memories surface . Special gifts for
special people . What more could I ask as an end
result of a painting project?

My first Commission was in 1976 , and I have completely lost count
of the hundreds of paintings created in this fashion. Most patrons
have recounted the many hours of storytelling that have been
spent around their paintings. That is always one of my goals . To
see people make conversation, and recount stories is one of my
favorite hobbies anyway, and what a pleasure it is to help
facilitate that .
Since much of my work is done from photographs, many of my
commissioned paintings are of subjects I have never seen in person .
If possible ,I like to photograph them personally , but many
subjects don't exist anymore ,or are too far away for me to make the
photos . For instance, I recently completed a painting of a couple's
first home in West Texas, taken from photos in 1985 , mixed with
current photos (to give me a better perspective) . We threw in a
couple of period vehicles in the driveway, and the scene became
very familiar to them again. Another recent commission involves
four different views of the same house, but shows the changing of
the seasons.
