The Culture...

Andalusia has always been a town with
an excellent cultural environment .
While it would be impossible to include
all that contributed to the cultural
development of Andalusia's young
people , there are certainly a few who
influenced our generation in very
specific ways .
For many years ,  Andalusia was entertained
by the concert and marching bands of Jim
Nettles .  While achieving legendary status
among his students , Jim also brought to
Andalusia a creative approach to halftime
entertainment , weaving rock classics, movie
themes, disco dance tunes and even bluegrass
standards into his bands' routines.  He also
found ways to include classic instruments
such as the Kazoo and slide whistle into the
show...

...and when we're through , we'll burn the school ,
for the glory of
AHS !           Thanks Jim
A mention of cultural influence in Andalusia during our generation , would also
have to include the dance studios of Arlene Nettles , who coached many a young
woman and a few young men to become fine dancers , poised , polished and
prepared for Junior Miss competitions , college tryouts , and advanced ballet
programs .
An artistic retrospective of Andalusia
would be incomplete, in my opinion ,
without paying tribute to the art
instruction of Margo Russell .  While
other art teachers were certainly
instrumental in helping us develop our
skills as painters and sculptors , Margo
helped her students to love art and the
creative process .
Many of Margo's students are now professional artists or have found careers
where their love of art has helped them succeed .  Most of these students would
easily tell you that the secret to the magic behind these success stories began in
the most humble of places ... the Garage .
